Austria extends over 83,870 square kilometers and has a land border of approximately 2,502 kilometers but has no direct access to the sea. To the east, Austria borders Slovakia and Hungary, to the west with Switzerland, Lichtenstein and Germany with Germany to the south and Germany and Czech Republic to the north. Austria's longest border is with Germany - 784 km. The shortest is the border with Lichtenstein - 35 km.
The population of Austria is 8.18 million and is comprised mainly of Austrians - 91%, with other additional minorities. From the aspect of religion, some 74% of Austrian citizens are Roman Catholic, 5% are Protestant and some 4% are Muslims.
The natural population increase is 0.11% per annum while the population density in Austria is 99 people per square kilometer.
Administratively, Austria is divided into 9 states.
The official language is German while in some areas the official languages are Hungarian, Croatian and Slovenian.
