The population of Serbia and Montenegro in 2005 is approximately 10.8 million, the Serbian population accounting for in excess of 90% of the entire population. The population comprises some 63% Serbians and 17% Albanians. From the aspect of religion, some approximately 65% are Orthodox, some 19% are Muslims and 4% are Roman Catholic.
The natural population increase in Serbia and Montenegro is 0.03% per annum while the population density is 134 people per square kilometer.
Administratively, Serbia and Montenegro is divided into 2 republics, Serbia and Montenegro and 2 autonomous provinces, Kosovo of which Pristina is the capital and Vojvodina with Novi Sad as its capital. The republics of Serbia and Montenegro have different tax laws, different currencies and each republic has its own, separate central bank.
95% of the population speaks Serbian and some 5% speak Albanian.
On 3.6.2006 Montenegro became an independent state.
