Japan Visas and Work Permits

Japan Visitors Visa
The procedure for obtaining a visitors visa depends on the country of origin of the tourist. Visas are granted to residents of some counties (the United States, Canada, some countries of Western Europe and more) to stay in Japan for up to 90 days without a "Visitors Visa".
Residents of some other countries are obliged to obtain a "Visitors Visa" when they arrive in Japan.
If you intend visiting Japan for more than 90 days, you must obtain an "ALIEN CARD" from the local authority. It is compulsory to carry the document constantly during a stay of more than 90 days, as stated.

Work Visa to Japan
If, as a foreign resident, you wish to work in Japan, you must see that you obtain a work visa. The visa is issued by the Japanese Embassy or the Consulate in your country of origin.

Japan Residential Permit
Residential permits are divided into 2 categories - a temporary residential permit and a permanent residential permit.

Temporary Residential Permit

The permit is granted to a defined group of people and is usually restricted to a certain period. Thus, for example, diplomats, business people who run an approved business that is owned by foreign residents, engineers and research personnel who work within the framework of an official contract with a Japanese company, whether public or private - are eligible for this permit.

Permanent Residential Permit

As a general rule, it is very difficult to obtain a permanent residential permit. When a person has lived in Japan for a very long period, the grant of a permit will be considered while taking account of matters such as: proof of the ability to support himself or herself independently, normal health and more. The spouses and children of a Japanese resident will be granted a permit easily. Receipt of a permit for refugees or persons defined as having a significant contribution to make to life in Japan is greatly facilitated.
